Plagiarism Notice
You are reminded that there exist regulations concerning plagiarism.
Extracts from University Regulations on Cheating, Plagiarism and Collusion
Section 2.3: “The following broad types of offence can be identified and are provided as indicative examples
- Cheating: including copying coursework.
- Falsifying data in experimental results.
- Personation, where a substitute takes an examination or test on behalf of the candidate. Both candidate and substitute may be guilty of an offence under these Regulations.
- Bribery or attempted bribery of a person thought to have some influence on the candidate’s assessment.
- Collusion to present joint work as the work solely of one individual.
- Plagiarism, where the work or ideas of another are presented as the candidate’s own.
- Other conduct calculated to secure an advantage on assessment.
- Assisting in any of the above.
Some notes on what this means for students:
- Copying another student’s work is an offence, whether from a copy on paper or from a computer file, and in whatever form the intellectual property being copied takes, including text, mathematical notation, and computer programs.
- Taking extracts from published sources without attribution is an offence. To quote ideas, sometimes using extracts, is generally to be encouraged. Quoting ideas is achieved by stating an author’s argument and attributing it, perhaps by quoting, immediately in the text, his or her name and year of publication, e.g. ” e = mc2 (Einstein 1905)”. A reference section at the end of your work should then list all such references in alphabetical order of authors’ surnames. (There are variations on this referencing system which your tutors may prefer you to use.) If you wish to quote a paragraph or so from published work then indent the quotation on both left and right margins, using an italic font where practicable, and introduce the quotation with an attribution.

Coursework 1–Production 1: VFX for 3D Scene
This coursework assesses the following Learning Outcomes of the module:
LO1: understand the advanced concepts and creative and technical issues related to VFX;
LO3: demonstrate a capability to choose the appropriate advanced techniques and tools as well as apply in practice the knowledge and skills to match project requirements and suggest effective problem solutions;
Coursework Introduction
This coursework enables you to develop your skills in developing and applying VFX to a 3D animation scene.
In your 1stcoursework, are to make VFX using any 3D Software and apply it to an animation scene
Note:
- no presets of any kind are allowed to be used
- The project should be the same as the storyboard you developed.
- Learning base software is MAYA
Instructions
For this coursework, here’s how you can proceed:
1. Select Your 3D Software
- Choose Software: Although your primary tool is Maya, you can explore other 3D software like Blender, Cinema 4D, or Houdini to create the VFX.
2. Plan the story and the VFX
- Create Storyboard: create your story and storyboard accordingly
- Identify the Effects: Decide on the two environment-based VFX you want to create. This could include effects like weather (rain, snow, fog), explosions, fire, or environmental destruction.
- Scene Integration: Plan how these effects will be integrated into your existing animation scenes.
3. Create the VFX
- VFX Creation: Use the chosen software to create the two VFX sequences. Pay attention to realism, interaction with the environment, and overall visual impact.
- Simulations and Dynamics: Utilize the software’s simulation tools to create realistic effects. For example, consider using fluid simulations for natural movement if you’re making a fire effect.
4. Apply VFX to the Animation Scene
- Scene Integration: Integrate the animated scene with your created VFX.
- Rendering: Render the scene with the VFX applied. Ensure that the effects are properly integrated and enhance the overall animation.( you can render effects in passes and composite later.)
- No Breakdown Required: Since a breakdown video is not required for this submission, focus on ensuring the VFX is seamless and well-integrated.
6. Final Submission
- Submit PDF file with a proper link to your final video and drive link.
This approach will guide you to complete your coursework.
